No individual in the Catholic Church has the same level of authority to interpret scripture that a Protestant claims to have.

There’s a reason Christ gave us a visible Church.

And if you claim to be “obedient to the Holy Spirit” to guide your personal interpretation of scripture, then the Holy Spirit is a liar who happens to go around telling every individual different things.
